HyVee Thanksgiving Deals and the Power of Rainchecks!

Ah, yes, I'm back at HyVee power shopping this week! I had a list of items for next week's Thanksgiving feast.  (I'll share my menu plans later!)  They had some fantastic deals and I used my rainchecks from a few weeks ago!  Let's take a look at what I got!

Sale Items!

 HyVee Butter - $1.77 a pound!

Whew hoo!  Butter those rolls with HyVee butter at just $1.77 a pound!  Limit 1

HyVee Canned Veggies - 4/$1.00!
I said it once and I'll say it again... I LOVE that HyVee includes their salt free items when they have a sale on their canned vegetables!  I got four cans of salt-free corn for $1.00 total!  Oh, my heart did a happy leap!

Sweet potatoes - $.33 a pound!

You can't beat the nutrition of this amazing vegetable!  I just bake and serve!  If you feel you need some sweetness, add a drizzle of real maple syrup and maybe even some raisins, walnuts, cinnamon, or pumpkin pie spice.  Yum!

Rain Checks!

I reminded you a few weeks ago that any time a store is out of an advertised item, you should head straight to the courtesy counter and ask if they will issue you a rain check.  This paper is very similar to a coupon.  It lists the name of the item, the price, a limit (if there is one), and a date by which you must use the rain check.  You may stop back by the store anytime before the rain check expires and they will sell you the item at the sale price.

Moon Drop grapes - $.88 a pound

If you've never tried these grapes, DO IT!  They are amazingly crisp and sweet! They taste like candy!  This was a rain check purchase.  I saved about $1.75 per pound by using the rain check!  I got 4 packages, because I plan to use these grapes as our main fruit this week.  My oldest son will be home from college for Thanksgiving break and we will be able to chat and catch up while eating grapes!

HyVee Split chicken breasts - $.88 a pound!

Y'all know that I don't eat meat.  But, my meat eaters asked for chicken for Thanksgiving.  I remembered that I still had that rain check in my purse and used it!

SAVING TIP:  If you don't see what you need or the quantity that you need, ask a store employee for help!

Today, there were only three packs of chicken on the shelves.  I spied a member of the meat department and asked if they had any more in the back.  When he heard that I was using a rain check, he offered to re-price the packages which I had already selected and add two more from the back.  In this way, the packages were pre-priced at $.88 a pound, saving time for me at the checkout and possible headaches for the checkout personelle.  Nice!  By the way, I got all five packs for just over $10!

What did I spend?

I got everything in the photos for just $25.06!

 Go HyVee!

Hang out with me this week!  I'll show you how I use all the wonderful buys I've gotten on groceries this week!

Don't forget!

I need your potato recipes to figure out how to use that 30# of potatoes that I got at a great price this week!  Leave your advice and recipes in the comments section below.
