I've talked before about one of the best ways to save money on gifts: Shop after holiday sales! You'll find a LOT of general merchandise products, which (in the store's mind) were designated to be sold during a particular holiday. In reality, many of these items can be repurposed and given as gifts year-round.
Before we go any further, let me encourage you to download my FREE gift giving organizer. This document will help you set your yearly gift budget, list birthdays and special occasions, and remind yourself if you have already purchased an appropriate gift (and where you have it stored in your home.) It's FREE and my way of saying, "Thanks for being an Under the Median reader.) Here's where I explain how to download and use the planner.
My latest haul:
My gift stash was getting a little low. I mainly stocked up on items for children's birthday parties and baby showers. Let's take a look at my latest haul. I'll show you what I paid for each item and then tell you how I plan to use them in my gift stash.
Boy Inspired Gifts:
I bought a set of 5 of each of these items. I will put one of each in gift bag, along with a bag of candy and a Lego knock off kit from Dollar Tree for birthday party gifts.
Total cost of each gift bag: under $5 - including the gift bag!
Big squishy colored balls of putty. Pretty cool for 25¢ each!
Set of 5 plastic dinosaurs - 25¢ each!
You can throw these colorful orbs at the wall! They stick and then slowly fall off. Too cool!
Girl Inspired Gifts:
I'll use these for girl birthday gifts. One of each item will be placed in the gift bag along with two Dollar Tree items. Dollar tree has some fantastic packs of make-up sponges, small mirrors, and more.
Total gift cost of each gift bag: under $5 - including the gift bag.
Cupcake lipgloss! A set of 5 colors and flavors! 25¢ each!
A set of make up brushes. 15¢ each!
Baby Shower Inspired Gifts:
I could NOT believe this deal! Each woven basket had a colorful liner and a coordinating soft, stuffed bunny. I plan to use these for baby shower gifts, along with one of the green rubber duckies, and some baby lotion and baby shampoo from Dollar Tree. I'll wrap the entire thing with saran wrap and add a coordinating bow.
Total gift cost: under $5!
Bunny in a basket. $1.25 each! They had several neutral colors.
Don't forget!
You can do exactly what I have done! Create a gift stash in your home. Write down each gift-giving occasions for the entire year. Decide how much you will spend on each gift. You got great stuff. My girls would love the make up brushes for 15¢. My kids are used to seeing items from previous holidays in with their gifts.
ReplyDeleteThanks! My youngest son is 11. So, he is getting invited to a lot of birthday parties. Girls who are turning 12 love getting nice little make-up items. I was so excited!
