This Week's Best Buys: Kroger Markdowns!

It's worth stopping by your local Kroger to look for markdowns a couple of times a week.  I got all this for $17.40!  That's a savings of over 50%!

Let's take a closer look at each item!

Under normal circumstances I would, honestly, have left chocolate fruit dip on the markdown shelf.  We don't eat prepared items like this.  But, I volunteered to bring fruit to the high school class Christmas party next Friday.  So, I grabbed this dip for just $.99 to add to the fruit I will buy next week.

I have absolutely no idea what this price smells or tastes like!  But, the sous chef and I have been on a Mediterranean and Indian kick recently.  So, for $2.49, this bararat spice mix looked pretty cool.  Have any of you tried this or know anything about how I should use it?  Tips would be appreciated!

This Nourish bowl has a lot of real food ingredients listed on the label:  butternut squash, kale, kohlrabi, and brown rice with a creamy garlic sauce.  I hope the sauce is a separate packet.  I probably won't use it because of added oil and sodium.  But, there was a $1 manufacturer coupon on the front!  So, I got it for just $.49!

Check out these pretty, little green and yellow zucchini!  They are organic and were in the produce markdown area.  Everything is packaged in these red nets.  Every red netted package is just $1.00!  So, for $2.00 I have six zucchini.  I am thinking I will saute slices with onion, garlic, and spices.  After adding a big splash of fresh lemon juice, the mixture will be perfect over some freshly cooked pasta!  Yum!

Yes!  It's another 2 pound bag of fresh pea pods!  We love these things!  I will seriously have to hold some of them back for a couple of recipes or the boys will inhale them the minute I wash them and put them out on the table in a bowl!

Mustard greens for $1.49?  Yes, thank you!  I love greens!  These will be sauteed and I will eat them by the bowlful!

The cost of yogurt has risen steadily for the past few months.  This is organic Greek yogurt.  It was marked down to half price.  My dairy eaters will be super happy!

That's it!  Everything in the photo cost me just $17.40!  Remember to ask the employees at your local Kroger what time of day they do the markdowns and then plan to drop by a couple of times a week to cash in on close-to-date items, which are marked down to half price!

Remember, I need ideas on what to do with the unknown Baharat spice!  I took a chance on buying it, knowing that I love other Mediterranean and Indian spice blends.   Have you tried it?  What did you make with it?  Let me know what I can do with it!  Leave your ideas in the comments section.

I am not sure what spices on it but Baharat means spice so it is a spice mix:)

    1. Hey thanks, Ayca! It helps to know the translation! I wound up making an amazing recipe with chickpeas in a tomato and cream sauce with the spice. Served over brown rice. I had no idea, but it is very similar to garam masala, which is one of my favorite spices. So, now I'm excited to try it with other recipes. Thanks for stopping by the blog.

    2. It was! I'll certainly find some new ways to use it too.
